Spring celebration at Les Jardins de la Médina

Distillation fleur Oranger Marrakech

LES JARDINS DE LA MEDINA hotel is participating in the festivities honoring Marrakech, Cultural Capital of the Muslim World 2024, by hosting the Marrakech Zahria event, supported by the Al-Munyia association for the revitalization and preservation of Morocco’s cultural heritage.

The Marrakech Zahria, a celebration of orange blossom, marks the onset of spring with the traditional distillation ceremony of orange blossom, recognized as part of the Muslim world’s cultural heritage by ICESCO.

Jaafar El Kensousi, co-founder of the AL Munya association, tells us:

“The Zahria ceremony is an opportunity to recreate the bond between people from the same family, village, or tribe. It nurtures the sense of belonging to the community.

With the arrival of spring, women bring out the stills from their reserves and prepare to create moments of joy and happiness on the ceremonial day. Family, friends, large and small, gather around the enchanting fragrance of orange blossom. The nectar dripping from the still fills hearts with true happiness. The Zahria preserves a beautiful cultural memory rooted in a civility that defies the centuries. It connects us through its beauty, spiritual, social, economic, and well-being benefits to what moves us and deserves our utmost attention.”

This initiative transforms a once-private family ritual into a public, cultural, and festive celebration at the heart of the ancestral garden of Les Jardins de la Médina hotel.

The event will take place on March 17, 2024, starting at 11:00 am. It will be followed by an orange blossom-themed lunch*. In addition to the main ceremony, participants can enjoy complementary activities such as Andalusian music, traditional storytelling, and henna tattoo sessions.

*Price: 400 dhs per person excluding drinks.

The Marrakech Zahria is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the Marrakech Municipal Council, and the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council.
