Ramadan, the sacred month of Muslims at Les Jardins de la Médina

Ramadan 2019 in Marrakech.

May 07, 2019, in Morocco, is the first day of Ramadan, the sacred month of Muslims.

The month of Ramadan is dedicated to inner reflection, devotion and self-control. During this period, Muslim culture and Moroccan traditions meet and intermingle to give the "Ramadanese" days and evenings, this very special tonality, which may be difficult to understand from the outside but which is nevertheless as central as it is essential for a very large majority of Muslims.

During this sacred month, every Muslim is required to refrain from eating, drinking and smoking from sunrise to sunset.

Therefore, every day at nightfall, the break of fasting is a celebration, most often celebrated with the family around a table filled with good traditional dishes that women have sometimes spent all day preparing (without tasting them…). This daily ceremony is called the "FTOUR", which is the first meal of the day.

While staying in Marrakech during Ramadan, you will probably be surprised by the sound of the siren that sounds throughout the city, twice a day, to signal to the Marrakchis the beginning and end of fasting. Each minaret thus signals the beginning and end of the effort required of the faithful, at the same time as the call to prayer.

At the Jardins de la Médina, we are committed to sharing with you the Muslim and Moroccan traditions. To do this, we invite you every evening of this sacred month to join us to discover the traditional Ftour. Go to the hotel bar as soon as the call to prayer is made. Ramadan does not change the quality of service, all services remain open 7 days a week, and dinner is served from 8:15 pm. Spa hours will be from 9am to 6:30pm.

Good Ramadan to all!!
